Activism (Giunta)

Ironically today I created a project, inspired by our professional practices class, to create a social media account representing the voice of my collage collection. Operating outside the traditional spaces of galleries, this Instagram account more effectively communicates the social malady that constitutes much of our modern culture for women. I am excited, encouraged but mostly intrigued by this approach that pulls through my evolving train of dark humor using pornography as a proxy for the average young American girl begging the question if today’s social media behaviors are any different than what has been depicted in classical print pornography. Are young girls not just recreating the sex appeal of these spreads and chronicling it as biographical evidence of their youth. Senior portraits and Halloween party pics are not too far away from those pages. There truly is no single work or action, or a better venue than directly on social media itself. I’m intrigued to see where this experiment goes.

Sitting still for a bite, I fed a bird looking for a morsel. I hesitated thinking how bad human processed food must be for birds, but wondered if he was having a harder time finding worms & bugs. I hated the thought of him being hungry so I tossed him a couple bites of my sandwich bun

A bus went by with a Seinfeld Ad, which struck me funny considering how old that show is.

A family walked by hangrily discussing their dinner options. A local spot was suggested followed by a chain suggestion. They sounded as though they opted for the chain.

A man with his blind dog walked by. The dog noticed a bicycle in his way before walking into it. He stopped then took his owners advice on which way to go.

It’s quieter in this spot than in previous days. I wonder why?

The air is misty, though it’s not that humid. I also wonder why
